Killer Personality by Steven Fisher is a mind-bending story told through the alternating viewpoints of Kevin and Olivia. Kevin is an emotionally secure man searching for a committed relationship. On the other hand, Olivia is a beautiful and intelligent woman with startling secrets hidden in her past. Both characters meet each other at the Living Room Grill in Philadelphia and form an instant romantic bond. Unbeknownst to Kevin, Olivia has already done extensive research on him using black market data. She even presents herself as the ideal girlfriend to Kevin's friends. Nonetheless, Gary—Kevin's best friend, who is a police officer—senses that he knows Olivia from a previous investigation. This unforeseen event prompts Olivia to do an unthinkable act. Eventually, Kevin secretly begins to dig into Olivia’s past and realizes that most of her backstory is false. How will this riveting story end? Killer Personality is an electrifying psychological thriller about seduction and danger that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Through Kevin's and Olivia's compelling performances as prey and predator, Steven Fisher provides readers with a dark but entertaining depiction of themes like self-identity, trauma, and the thin line that separates adaptive behavior from pathological behavior. The pacing and narrative buildup amplify the psychological suspense woven throughout the chapters. Olivia’s shocking inner monologues are nicely paired against Kevin’s gradual realization about the woman he fell in love with. Ultimately, this is a character-driven tale that raises some fascinating questions about the cause of personality disorders and violent inclinations in persons who exhibit these traits. It is both an in-depth exploration of the human psyche and a chilling journey. Psychological thriller fans are guaranteed to enjoy this exhilarating novel.

Killer Personality has a narrative that spins together a cohesive web, ready to trap any reader into its compelling plot. Although there are a lot of different points of view and perspectives, the details are tied together into a cool mystery that it pays off. The victims and the reasoning for Olivia’s odd behavior (like talking to a deteriorating skeleton) makes more and more sense as time goes on. Author Steven Fisher does such an excellent job of expanding and dissecting Olivia as a character—both as a perpetrator of multiple crimes and a victim of a horrible childhood. Olivia is brought to the page with depth and complexity, a must for a book centering on the little-often heard female serial killer. While her motivation for love and the affection of men initially come off as cliché, her dismembered past, coming up sporadically, adds layers to it. Her apathetic killer persona ends up complementing Kevin’s more emotional perspective, subverting tropes in a really interesting way. Some characters repeat plot points a little too often, which can slow down the usually speedy reading experience, but luckily, the action is almost always right around the corner to pick it back up again. All in all, Killer Personality is lifted by its killer qualities: a new perspective, a fantastic villain, a multilayered mystery. Thriller readers will be glad to have found this action-packed quest for justice.

Steven Fisher regularly shifts perspectives between Olivia and Kevin, identifying these pivot points so that readers can easily flow between these disparate personalities and lives. He creates a bond that seems solid before bodies are unearthed and the horror begins to pile up, involving readers in Kevin’s predicament as Olivia’s allure is countered by his growing horror over her true nature. Even more pointed and revealing are moments in which Olivia (aka Susan) presents the experiences of her past which impact her sense of choice, responsibility, and the emerging consequences of her attractions and actions: All my life, it had felt like I had been on the run or ready to run. I had experienced no peace since I left the town where I had been born. I had lost my father and sister. I had lost every man I had tried to love. I suddenly realized that Eddie was the only man who had never left or disappointed me. But it was better this way. As she becomes part of a team, seemingly falls into a better life, and navigates pitfalls and possibilities, Olivia’s persona comes to light in deeper ways that belay any possibility of simply identifying her dangerous choices and ways of thinking: They say that time flies when you’re having fun. The next six months were the most fun of my adult life...I explored museums all over the city and felt like I was growing and learning every day. I lived in a cool apartment near to everything I needed. I even began to think about putting myself out there for a social life. Readers might anticipate feeling more connection to Kevin than Olivia, but the real surprises are delivered through Olivia’s shifting perspectives, which chart her growth and her failures alike: Every person in my life I erased would be found. That didn’t bother me. The world knows what I am, even if they don’t know who I am and why. That Kevin! He had gotten under my skin, and I guess I did want him to know me. Libraries interested in a tale of growth, revelation, and uncertain connections with love and life will find Killer Personality as alluring as its characters. It’s filled with action, psychological inspection, and important points of discussion for book clubs and reading groups. Audiences will appreciate how Fisher builds killer connections via a head-turner of a woman, a man who enters her odd, threatening world, and the makings of a persona whose outer appearance masks an inner danger that reaches out to touch another with unexpected results for them both.

Killer Urge tells of a hiker killed in a park, an investigation that stymies local authorities, and the expertise and participation of outsider Kevin Mathers in the search for a savvy killer. The story opens with a first-person dialogue from the killer’s perspective. This gives the story a powerful personal perspective from its opening lines: I had known for a long time that I needed to kill someone. There were so many things in my life that I was angry about. Someone needed to be punished. My feelings simmered, waiting to explode out into the world. I knew that I needed to tap this volcano inside me, or it would implode. But who should I kill? The loner’s encounter with “Chatty Cathy” results in the woman’s death. This leads to the introduction of Kevin, a Philadelphia celebrity who has already solved a major crime puzzle – without being either a P.I. or a police officer. He may have stepped into the world of crime when that serial killer turned out to be his girlfriend, but when he inadvertently becomes involved in yet another homicide case, Kevin finds his problem-solving abilities tapped in an unusual way. The perspectives of the story’s characters keep changing, but headers with their names leave little room for confusion as the story evolves. These viewpoints add to the story’s complexity and satisfyingly psychological twists and turns as Anna, Leonard, Jennifer, and others step into a pressure cooker of death and nightmare confrontations. Each character contributes thought-provoking experiences and insights into the mix as the original killer’s rage builds into an explosion of action. Each adds to the evolution of the “Valley Green Killer” as the victims mount and questions about death and connections emerge from their lives, leading Kevin and the homicide team on a lively chase that appears to hold no logical conclusion. Libraries and readers who like their action fast-paced, their characters multifaceted and complex, and their murder mysteries steeped in an air of psychological connection and discovery will relish how Killer Urge focuses on and fine-tunes the killer instinct for a totally unpredictable outcome. Filled with satisfying twists powered by revelations on the part of perp and investigators who become entwined in these deaths and lives, Killer Urge is a winning saga that is a real page-turner.

Killer Looks is an intriguing psychological mystery where every move becomes part of a twisted addictive puzzle. The question isn’t who committed the murders, we already know that. Instead, it is whether detectives can catch him before he makes his next move.

Frank is a serial killer who has managed to evade notice and capture for years. Bored of his “easy” conquests and the same routine, he decides to make things more interesting. He challenges retired Investigator Kevin Mathers, the nation’s top serial killer catcher, into a deadly game where he leaves clues that forces Kevin into a race against time before the next victim is killed.

Rather than building suspense around the killer’s identity, Author Fisher invites readers inside the minds of the killer, the detectives, and even some of the victims. Knowing who Frank is from the beginning completely changes the reading experience. Instead of trying to solve a traditional mystery, readers are caught up in the chase, watching the police and FBI slowly piece together clues while Frank stays frustratingly ahead of them.

While Frank’s identity is never a mystery, the man behind the crimes certainly is. Why does he kill? How did he become the person he is? Why is he so fixated on Kevin? And just how deeply are their lives connected? Those unanswered questions will keep readers invested throughout the novel.

The pacing is another strength. Killer Looks moves quickly, making it an easy book to keep up with. However, slowing down a few beats may have added more emotional weight to the story. It feels like we’re missing, especially, the interactions between Kevin and Frank before everything hits its climax.

Even so, Fisher tells this story with an entertaining cast of characters, each with their own personalities, struggles, and motivations. I especially appreciated how Frank is portrayed. He isn’t presented as a monster hiding in darkness but as someone who blends effortlessly into everyday life. The novel explores how dangerous people can hide behind charm, confidence, and attractive appearances while those around them remain completely unaware. It’s a reminder that evil doesn’t always look the way we expect it to. A psychopath can very much be a co-worker, son, or lover.

Kevin’s character and his development adds an emotional layer to the thriller. He’s still carrying survivor’s guilt, grief, and psychological scars left by the previous cases which forced him into early retirement. As he struggles to heal and forgive himself, this new investigation forces him to confront those wounds all over again. His internal battle raises an interesting moral question: where is the line between justice and violence? If you kill someone in self-defense—or to stop them from hurting others—does that make you any different from the person you stopped?

One passage, in particular, really stayed with me:

“Does that hold true for murder? If you kill someone, do you take on the guilt for all the people they killed along the way? Are you all linked together in a chain of death and destruction? Even if you are not a victim, are you still on the charm bracelet, joined by the links of bone and blood and death?”

Beyond the murders and investigation, Killer Looks asks readers to consider the lasting consequences of violence and whether anyone escapes it unchanged. More than a hunt for a killer, the novel explores whether violence ever truly ends with the person who starts it.

All in all, this is an engaging psychological mystery that offers a refreshing twist on the serial killer formula. Fast-paced and thought-provoking, Killer Looks is a great match for anyone who enjoys character-driven crime fiction with moral dilemmas woven into its mystery.
